Understanding The Nature Of Evolutinary Change

While to us most things in the universe appear to be either static, like all objects, or moving slowly, like the planets, truth is that the universe and everything in it is constantly in motion and constantly changing. However, the nature of change is little understood by the average person. This ignorance leads to many misunderstandings and a great deal of unnecessary unhappiness and suffering.

It is preceicely because change is so little understood that we fear it and resist it. This the worst thing we can do, because in doing so we are going against universal forces.

 Going with the flow

The ancient wisdom traditions talk a lot about going with the flow. Intellectually it makes sense that the more you resist the more the pain persists. But just why is that so, and, more importantly, how can you make this constant process of change easier?

The wiring of our brain has a lot to do with our difficulty to change and evolve. Most of our actions, at least 90% are based on what we did the day before. For the average person 95% of their thoughts are the same as they were the day before.  We allow the conscious mind to dictate our lives. The conscious mind is very limited in its grasp of reality and needs the concepts of past experiences and bases its future expectations on  past experiences. This is an important insight into why we have such a hard time with going with the natural flow of life.

The conscious mind is always looking for old reference points in order to perform any task

This allows us to function automatically and with realitve speed and ease most of the time. Difficulties arise when these old precedents either become encoded with inappropriate emotional codes, (negative thoughts and feelings like anxiety, anger, depression), or there is no precedent to match a new task or situation.

Since the nature of change is an unknown quantity of infinite possibilities, we  get into trouble, because we  operate predominantly from our conscious minds. Fear of uncertainty create resistance, more fear and anxiety. It can lead to dysfunctional behaviour and illness. In other words: as we get more into a chaotic state this chaos feeds on itself until it resolves.

The scientist Ilya Prigogine came up with the answer to what is actually happening in our  brains. Without going into details here suffice it to say that our brains operate according to a law in thermodynamics, the law of increasing entropy. Chaos builds within a system  until the system begins to re-organise itself on a higher level and starts functioning again in what we call an orderly fashion, but at a higher level.

We can observe this pheomenon throught nature and in everyday existence too. The law of increasing entropy operates in the economy, in the financial markets and, yes you guessed it, in humans. It is how evolutionary grow occurs.

We continually evolve  on all levels without being consciously aware for the most part

The entire cellular structure of your body renews itself completely with every seven year cycle. Some organs only take days, weeks or a few months to renew themselves in this natrual process. Yet, paradoxically so, most of us are in active denial of the universal law of evolutionary change. We insist on staying within the realm of the known and hope to build better lives for ourselves from that premise.

In fact, we insist on staying as we are, totally ignoring the dynamics of the universe. We are going against the laws of the universe and against the laws of evolution when we behave like this, as most of us do, simply because we don\'t know any better Since chaos is an integral part of our nature going against it only achieves one thing: It increases suffering.

This attitude is akin to standing right in front of an oncoming train. The end result: You will die, for sure.(At least in human form.)

Awareness of course is power

Just by becoming aware of what is happening when your mind goes into chaos can be of help. It points to an error in your thinking which of course is in your power to correct.  Cognitive awareness  can alleviate some of the fear so many of us feel of the unknown.

Standing back, and allowing the process to complete itself is the best way you can help yourself. Raising self awareness through exercises is a powerful way to raise your vibrational energy levels. When you raise your vibrational energy levels you are going with the flow of life and with the natural flow of evolution. This will help you through transition periods and reduce stress and anxiety.
